Riders Aid is a program run by skiers and snowboarders who are focused on
raising awareness and funding for the
basic needs of impoverished people around the world.
Many people around the
world live without food, clean
water, basic health care and
shelter. We want to multiply our
resources to help make a
difference. It is our aim to educate
and enlist assistance from the
snowriding community. Rather than start our own initiatives in these countries, the money we raise will be given to an existing organization that is already doing good work.
The money we raise will fund the installation of BioSand water filters in the African countries of Kenya, Ethiopia, Libya, Malawi and Mozambique.
rider: Daniel "Floyd" Ralph
Raised so far in 09/10: $2,626 = 26 Water Filters
Money raised since we started: $18,806 = 188 Filters
In addition to our regular project of raising money for clean drinking water, we held an extra fundraiser for the earthquake victims in Haiti. We raised $911.00 at our "Hot Dogs for Haiti" event on Saturday at the Overwaitea in Fernie. A big thanks to everyone who donated and to Overwaitea for all their support.
I just wanted to send out a HUGE Thank you to everyone who supported this years Riders.aid/Unlimited Skate and Snow Season Opener party out at Stables Pub in Lake Louise. It went over amazing and we definitely crushed last years grand total for the money we raised to provide clean drinking water for families in Africa. So far we have raised right around the $2,600 dollar mark!!!!!! Through the turn on the Tap program that we support that will provide 26 housholds (8-10 people each) with a BioSand water filter that will
provide clean disease free water with the use of sand...... and the concrete filter..... amazing! Thats up to 260 people that you guys have effected in a huge way. Water born bacteria and viruses are a huge cause of disease and death in Africa, and because of all you amazing rad people, lives have been saved. No price can be put on it. An event like this really shows you that mountain town people and shred industry people are some of the raddest caring people around.
